Carbidopa is an inhibitor of aromatic-L-amino-acid decarboxylase (DDC) that prevents the enzymatic conversion of levodopa to dopamine in peripheral tissues. Because carbidopa cannot cross the blood-brain barrier, it selectively blocks peripheral dopamine synthesis, thereby increasing the bioavailability and half-life of levodopa in circulation. This peripheral inhibition allows more levodopa to enter the central nervous system while suppressing peripheral dopaminergic side effects. [1]

- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
