Biapenem (L-627, LJC10627) is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacterial strains. It exerts its antibacterial action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This inhibition leads to the disruption of peptidoglycan layer cross-linking, ultimately resulting in bacterial cell lysis and death, even in species producing certain beta-lactamases. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
