Aztreonam is a synthetic monocyclic beta-lactam antibiotic that targets bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), displaying high affinity for PBP-3 and weak affinity for PBP-1a. By selective binding to PBP-3, it inhibits mucopeptide synthesis in the bacterial cell wall and disrupts peptidoglycan crosslinking. This blockage causes filamentation and cell lysis in Gram-negative aerobic bacteria while sparing Gram-positive and anaerobic microorganisms. [1]

- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
