Asaraldehyde (2,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde) is a natural phenolic compound that functions as a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor. By targeting the COX-2 enzyme, asaraldehyde blocks the biotransformation of arachidonic acid into inflammatory prostaglandins, such as prostaglandin E2. This inhibition suppresses downstream COX-2-mediated signaling cascades, resulting in reduced inflammatory mediator release and attenuated cellular inflammatory responses.
