Biological Activity

8-OH-DPAT (8-Hydroxy-DPAT) is a selective serotonin 5-HT1A receptor agonist. Upon binding, it stimulates 5-HT1A receptors to inhibit adenylate cyclase activity and reduce cyclic AMP production, modulating downstream G protein-coupled signaling pathways. This activation selectively suppresses serotonergic neuronal firing and regulates central neurotransmission, resulting in functional modulation of anxiety- and depression-like behaviors in preclinical models.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
