5-(N,N-Hexamethylene)-amiloride is an amiloride derivative that acts as a potent inhibitor of the Na⁺/H⁺ exchanger and the HIV-1 Vpu ion channel. Inhibition of Na⁺/H⁺ exchange lowers intracellular pH and induces apoptosis in target cells. Furthermore, it suppresses the replication of mouse hepatitis virus (MHV) with an EC₅₀ ofand human coronavirus 229E (HCoV-229E) with an EC₅₀ ofin cultured L929 cells. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
