Biological Activity

3'-Hydroxypterostilbene is a natural pterostilbene analogue and small-molecule dietary stilbenoid that inhibits the growth of human colon cancer cells, including COLO 205, HCT-116, and HT-29 lines. It exerts its antiproliferative activity by suppressing the PI3K/AKT/mTOR/p70S6K and p38 MAPK signalling cascades while simultaneously activating the ERK1/2 and JNK1/2 MAPK pathways. Consequently, this modulation of downstream survival pathways promotes apoptosis and induces autophagy in colon carcinoma cells.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
