3-Carene is a natural bicyclic monoterpene compound found in pine essential oils that acts as a bioactive agent targeting inflammatory pathways and bone tissue regulation. It attenuates COX-2 overexpression and inhibits lipopolysaccharide-induced macrophage migration in RAW 264.7 cells. Furthermore, 3-carene stimulates the enzymatic activity and expression of alkaline phosphatase, promoting early-stage osteoblastic differentiation and matrix mineralization during bone formation.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
