17-Hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) is an endogenous progestogen steroid hormone and a key intermediate in human steroidogenesis. Derived from progesterone, it serves as a precursor in the enzymatic biosynthesis of glucocorticoids, such as cortisol, as well as androgens and estrogens. Through conversion by cytochrome P450 enzymes including 21-hydroxylase, 17-hydroxyprogesterone modulates downstream steroid hormone signalling pathways and regulates endocrine homeostasis. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
