Biological Activity

1-Aminobenzotriazole (ABT) is a nonselective and irreversible inhibitor of cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes. It acts as a suicide substrate that covalently inactivates CYP isoforms, thereby blocking P450-mediated xenobiotic metabolism and oxidative clearance pathways. Additionally, ABT serves as a substrate and inhibitor of N-acetyltransferase (NAT). These activities impair xenobiotic biotransformation and suppress the metabolic clearance of co-administered substrates in functional assays. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
