Biological Activity

ZT-1a is a non-ATP-competitive kinase inhibitor of STE/SPS1-related proline-alanine-rich kinase (SPAK) with an ICof. By inhibiting SPAK, it reduces the phosphorylation of downstream cation-chloride cotransporters, including NKCC1 and KCCs, thereby regulating ion transport and cellular volume. Consequently, ZT-1a suppresses neuroinflammation, attenuates cerebral edema, and protects against neuronal tissue damage in models of ischemic brain injury. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
