Biological Activity

Wogonin is a naturally occurring plant-derived flavonoid that acts as a selective CDK9 inhibitor without targeting CDK2, CDK4, or CDK6 at effective doses. By inhibiting CDK9 activity, wogonin suppresses RNA polymerase II phosphorylation, leading to the downregulation of anti-apoptotic proteins like Mcl-1. This targeted inhibition disrupts transcriptional elongation, resulting in the induction of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in transformed cancer cells. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
