WAY-358871 is a bioactive compound that functions as a direct inhibitor of thrombin, the central serine protease in the blood coagulation cascade. By blocking thrombin catalytic activity, it impairs the downstream cleavage of fibrinogen to fibrin and reduces platelet activation. Consequently, this inhibition suppresses procoagulant signaling pathways and prevents fibrin clot formation, making it a useful chemical tool for studying thrombosis and hemostasis.[1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
