WAY-100635 Maleate is a potent and selective 5-HT1A receptor antagonist, inhibiting 5-HT1A with an IC50 of 0.95 nM. By selectively blocking 5-HT1A autoreceptors and postsynaptic 5-HT1A receptors, WAY-100635 modulates serotonergic neurotransmission and prevents agonist-induced hyperpolarization and inhibition of neuronal firing. Consequently, it restores serotonergic neuronal activity and reverses 5-HT1A receptor-mediated signaling responses without exhibiting intrinsic agonist activity.
