Biological Activity

Ulonivirine (MK-8507) is a selective non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that targets HIV-1 reverse transcriptase by binding to the adjacent hydrophobic pocket near the polymerase active site [1]. This allosteric binding induces conformational changes in the enzyme, suppressing viral reverse transcription and inhibiting HIV-1 replication [1, 2]. Additionally, ulonivirine exhibits potential to induce CYP3A4 gene expression, influencing hepatic drug metabolism pathways.[1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
