Trilobatin is a natural flavonoid molecule that functions as an HIV-1 entry inhibitor targeting the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein gp41. It exhibits marked antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties through modulation of cellular signaling cascades, including suppression of the NF-κB pathway and attenuation of oxidative stress. Downstream effects include reduced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and reactive oxygen species, suppressing cellular injury and inflammatory damage.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
