Trans-2-hexenal is a naturally occurring plant-derived α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compound and green leaf volatile that functions as a protective agent and signaling molecule. It exhibits potent antimicrobial and antifungal activities by disrupting cellular membranes and inducing oxidative stress in plant pathogens. Additionally, trans-2-hexenal activates plant defense signaling pathways, inducing expression of pathogenesis-related genes and priming tissues against herbivore and fungal attacks. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
