Biological Activity

Tolmetin Sodium is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the arylalkanoic acid class that acts as a non-selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). By inhibiting COX enzymatic activity, Tolmetin Sodium blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid into pro-inflammatory prostaglandins and thromboxanes. This attenuation of prostaglandin biosynthesis reduces mediator-driven inflammatory signaling, vascular permeability, and associated tissue swelling in preclinical models. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
