TMS ((E)-2,3',4,5'-tetramethoxystilbene) is a selective, competitive human cytochrome P450 1B1 (CYP1B1) inhibitor with an IC50 of 6 nM. By blocking CYP1B1 catalytic function, TMS inhibits the bioactivation of procarcinogens and reduces reactive oxygen species production. Downstream, CYP1B1 inhibition by TMS attenuates ERK1/2 and p38 MAPK signaling pathways, suppressing oxidative stress-mediated cellular dysfunction and vascular hypertrophy. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
