Biological Activity
Tin protoporphyrin IX dichloride is a potent inhibitor of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1). By suppressing HO-1 activity, it modulates cellular oxidative stress pathways, leading to reduced ozone-induced pulmonary inflammation and bronchoalveolar lavage cell necrosis. Furthermore, inhibition of HO-1 by tin protoporphyrin IX dichloride sensitizes pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma tumors to chemotherapy in animal models, demonstrating its utility in combination cancer therapies.
