Terpinen-4-ol is a naturally occurring monoterpene and the primary bioactive component of tea-tree oil with anti-inflammatory and antitumor activities. It inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-8, in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated human monocytes. Furthermore, terpinen-4-ol induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells, significantly suppressing melanoma tumor growth in vivo. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
