Biological Activity

Terazosin HCl Dihydrate is a selective α1-adrenoceptor antagonist. It blocks α1-adrenergic receptors to inhibit G-protein-coupled receptor signaling and intracellular calcium mobilization in smooth muscle cells. This inhibition leads to the relaxation of vascular and prostatic smooth muscle, resulting in reduced peripheral vascular resistance and the alleviation of urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia.[1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
