Tegaserod is an orally active serotonin receptor 4 (5-HT4R) agonist and 5-HT2B receptor antagonist that also displays binding affinity for 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors. Activation of 5-HT4R stimulates gastrointestinal motility and enteric neurotransmission, facilitating intestinal peristalsis. Beyond its prokinetic functions, tegaserod demonstrates anti-tumor activity by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis in cancer models, making it useful in irritable bowel syndrome and oncology research.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
