Biological Activity

Taurocholic acid sodium salt is an endogenous conjugated bile salt and choleretic agent that acts as a primary substrate for the sodium-taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP) and the bile salt export pump (BSEP). It plays a central role in driving enterohepatic circulation and regulating bile formation in hepatocytes. Repeated administration increases the bile acid pool size, stimulates canalicular bile flow, and enhances biliary excretion of lipids and bile acids. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
