Biological Activity

Tanshinone IIA sulfonate sodium is a water-soluble derivative of tanshinone IIA that acts as a negative allosteric modulator of the purinergic receptor P2X7. The compound additionally inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity and suppresses store-operated Ca2+ entry through store-operated Ca2+ channels via downregulation of TRPC protein expression. These actions attenuate intracellular calcium influx and downstream calcium-dependent signaling cascades involved in cellular responses. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
