Biological Activity

Sulfosuccinimidyl oleate sodium is a long-chain fatty acid derivative that acts as a CD36-mediated fatty acid transport inhibitor and a potent, irreversible inhibitor of the mitochondrial respiratory chain with an IC50 of 4 μM. By targeting CD36 translocase and mitochondrial complex III, it disrupts intracellular lipid uptake, attenuates inflammatory enzyme expression, and produces neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory phenotypes in cell models.[1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
