Biological Activity

Sulfo-NHS-LC-Biotin sodium is a biotinylated, amine-reactive ester compound that selectively labels primary amines on cell-surface and extracellular proteins. Because it cannot cross intact endothelial barriers, this tracer is utilized to evaluate vascular permeability in cerebral and retinal vasculature. Upon barrier disruption, the reagent extravasates into perivascular tissues to covalently mark local proteins, enabling quantitative assessment of blood-brain and blood-retinal barrier integrity.
