Biological Activity

Stylopine, a natural isoquinoline alkaloid derived from Chelidonium majus L., acts as a potent anti-inflammatory compound. It suppresses lipopolysaccharide-induced production of nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta), and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Downstream, stylopine inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) activity and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression, thereby suppressing NF-kB-mediated inflammatory signaling cascades and downstream cellular inflammatory responses. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
