Streptomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that acts as a bactericidal protein synthesis inhibitor by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, specifically interacting with 16S ribosomal RNA. This binding interferes with translational proofreading and causes mRNA misreading, leading to aberrant protein synthesis and bacterial cell death.
