Biological Activity

SR59230A is a blood-brain barrier-penetrating, selective antagonist of the β3-adrenergic receptor (IC50 40 nM), β1-adrenergic receptor (IC50 408 nM), and β2-adrenergic receptor (IC50 648 nM). By blocking β3-adrenergic receptors, it inhibits downstream cAMP signaling and modulates lipid metabolism and thermogenic pathways, providing a key pharmacological probe to investigate peripheral and central adrenergic receptor functions.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
