Biological Activity
Solutol HS-15 (Polyethylene glycol 12-hydroxystearate) is a non-ionic surfactant and mucosal permeation enhancer that improves membrane permeability by disrupting plasma membrane structure. Disruption of plasma membrane organization reverses multidrug resistance phenotypes by inhibiting P-glycoprotein-mediated drug efflux. Furthermore, modulation of cell membrane fluidity alters endocytosis rates and tight junction dynamics, leading to enhanced transmucosal drug absorption across epithelial cell layers. [1][2]
