Biological Activity

Sertaconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent that inhibits cytochrome P450-dependent 14α-lanosterol demethylase (Erg11p). Inhibition of Erg11p blocks fungal ergosterol biosynthesis, leading to significant cell membrane disruption. This loss of membrane integrity compromises cellular permeability and organelle function, ultimately causing fungal cell lysis and growth arrest. Additionally, sertaconazole modulates intracellular signaling to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokine release in activated immune cells. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
