Biological Activity

Schisantherin B is a natural bioactive dibenzocyclooctadiene lignan isolated from Schisandra chinensis with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. It attenuates cellular inflammatory responses by inhibiting the NF-kB and MAPK signaling pathways, leading to reduced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6. Additionally, Schisantherin B modulates cytochrome P450 enzyme activity and protects cells against oxidative stress-induced injury. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
