Biological Activity

SC-58125 is a selective inhibitor of human cyclooxygenase 2 (hCOX-2; IC50 = 0.04 μM) and a triple mutant of hCOX-2 (IC50 = 1 μM). By suppressing COX-2 activity, SC-58125 inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, which disrupts inflammatory signaling and downstream cellular proliferation. In preclinical models, SC-58125 displays anti-inflammatory and antitumor activities, suppressing the growth of human colon cancer xenografts. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
