Biological Activity

SB742457 is a potent and highly selective 5-HT6 receptor antagonist with a p, exhibiting over 100-fold selectivity over other serotonin receptor subtypes. Antagonism of the Gs protein-coupled 5-HT6 receptor inhibits adenylate cyclase activity and downregulates intracellular cAMP production. This modulation enhances central neurotransmission, promoting acetylcholine and glutamate release in cortical and hippocampal brain regions to facilitate cognitive function. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
