Biological Activity

SB-200646A is a selective serotonin receptor antagonist targeting 5-HT2B (p, 5-HT2C (p, and 5-HT2A (p. By blocking 5-HT2B and 5-HT2C receptors, SB-200646A inhibits serotonin-stimulated phosphoinositide hydrolysis and downstream intracellular calcium signaling pathways. This selective receptor inhibition attenuates 5-HT2B/2C-mediated physiological responses and produces anxiolytic-like behavioral phenotypes in preclinical models, demonstrating significant selectivity over 5-HT2A receptors. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
