Biological Activity

S-(5'-Adenosyl)-L-methionine (AdoMet) is an essential biological methyl donor and cofactor for enzyme-catalyzed transmethylation reactions, including those mediated by catechol O-methyltransferase (COMT) and DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs). By transferring methyl groups to nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids, AdoMet regulates gene expression, epigenetic modifications, and cellular metabolic pathways, playing a key role in protecting against oxidative stress and modulating anti-apoptotic cellular responses. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
