Biological Activity

Rutin (Quercetin-3-O-rutinoside) is a naturally occurring bioflavonoid glycoside with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. It modulates key cellular signaling pathways, including the NF-kB and MAPK pathways, suppressing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6. These downstream effects lead to reduced oxidative stress, attenuated lipid peroxidation, and cellular protection against oxidative and inflammatory damage.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
