Biological Activity

Rebamipide mofetil is an orally active prodrug of rebamipide that functions as a mucoprotective agent and inducer of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression. Rebamipide activates AMPK signaling to transcriptionally upregulate COX-2 expression without altering COX-1 levels. This COX-2 induction leads to elevated prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) synthesis, which enhances gastric mucosal defense and promotes mucosal protection against epithelial injury. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
