γ-Mangostin is a competitive 5-hydroxytryptamine 2A (5-HT2A) receptor antagonist that inhibits [3H]spiperone binding in cultured rat aortic myocytes (IC50 = 3.5 nM) and attenuates the 5-HT2A-mediated perfusion pressure response in rat coronary artery (IC50 = 0.32 µM). Additionally, γ-mangostin acts as an inhibitor of transthyretin (TTR) fibrillization. Through blockade of 5-HT2A receptor signaling, it attenuates serotonin-induced vascular smooth muscle contraction and coronary vasoconstriction.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
