Biological Activity

Q-VD-Oph is a cell-permeable pan-caspase inhibitor that targets caspase-1, caspase-3, caspase-8, and caspase-9 with IC50 values ranging from 25 to. By inhibiting caspase cleavage and downstream apoptotic signaling cascades, it prevents programmed cell death across diverse cell types. Additionally, Q-VD-Oph blocks viral-induced cell death and inhibits HIV infection in target cells without exhibiting significant cellular toxicity. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
