Biological Activity

Pyridoxal 5-phosphate monohydrate is an active vitamin B6 metabolite that acts as an essential enzymatic cofactor for PLP-dependent enzymes involved in amino acid metabolism. It plays a critical role in catalyzing transamination, decarboxylation, and racemization reactions within metabolic pathways. Through its participation in these enzymatic processes, pyridoxal 5-phosphate supports essential cellular functions including amino acid biosynthesis, neurotransmitter production, and central nitrogen metabolism. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
