Biological Activity

2,4-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid (2,4-PDCA) is a small-molecule structural mimic of 2-oxoglutarate (2-OG) that acts as a competitive inhibitor of 2-OG-dependent oxygenases, such as prolyl 4-hydroxylase. By competing with the endogenous 2-OG cofactor and chelating active-site catalytic metal ions, it blocks oxygenase catalytic activity, thereby modulating downstream cellular functions including extracellular matrix formation, collagen biosynthesis, and oxygen-sensing pathway signaling. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
