Purpurin 18 is a chlorophyll-derived dihydroporphyrin photosensitizer precursor that absorbs light in the–wavelength range. Following photoactivation, purpurin 18 generates intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to disruption of mitochondrial membrane potential and induction of apoptotic cell death in triple-negative breast cancer models both in vitro and in vivo.
