Biological Activity
Prodigiosin is a natural bacterial tripyrrole red pigment that acts as an inhibitor of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. By targeting this pathway, prodigiosin suppresses downstream target gene expression, impairs tumor cell proliferation, and triggers apoptotic cell death across multiple cancer cell lines. Furthermore, it disrupts intracellular pH gradients and mitochondrial membrane potential, demonstrating potent cytotoxic and antitumor activities in preclinical models. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
