Biological Activity

ε-Poly-L-lysine HCl is a naturally occurring, cationic homopolymeric poly(amino acid) that acts as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent. It electrostatically interacts with negatively charged outer bacterial membrane components and lipid bilayers. This interaction disrupts cell membrane integrity, causing membrane permeabilization, altered cell morphology, and detergent-like bilayer disruption, which ultimately leads to severe cellular lysis and the inhibition of microbial growth.[1][2]
