Plantagoside is a natural flavanone glucoside isolated from the seeds of Plantago asiatica that acts as a specific, non-competitive α-mannosidase inhibitor with an IC50 of 5 μM. By inhibiting α-mannosidase activity, it interferes with N-linked glycoprotein processing and oligosaccharide maturation within the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi complex. This inhibition modulates glycoprotein trafficking and carbohydrate-dependent cellular recognition events, leading to alterations in immune cell responses and cellular adhesion processes. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
