Biological Activity

Piribedil is a selective agonist of dopamine D2 and D3 receptors and an antagonist of α2A- and α2C-adrenergic receptors. By activating D2/D3 receptors and blocking presynaptic α2-adrenergic receptors, it enhances dopaminergic and noradrenergic neurotransmission. These downstream functional actions promote the release of dopamine and acetylcholine in the cerebral cortex, contributing to improved motor functions and cognitive phenotypes.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
