Biological Activity

Pimethixene maleate is a potent antagonist of multiple monoamine receptors, exhibiting high binding affinity for histamine H1 receptors, serotonin receptor subtypes (including 5-HT2A and 5-HT2B), and muscarinic M1 and M2 receptors. By blocking these GPCR signaling pathways, it modulates monoaminergic neurotransmission and downstream intracellular calcium mobilization and cAMP signaling, thereby inhibiting mediator-induced smooth muscle contraction, vascular permeability, and central nervous system signaling cascades. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
