Picrotoxin is a plant alkaloid that functions as a non-competitive antagonist of neuronal GABAA and glycine receptors. By binding within the ion channel pore of ligand-gated chloride channels, it blocks chloride ion influx triggered by GABA and glycine neurotransmission. Inhibition of these inhibitory ion channels attenuates post-synaptic hyperpolarization, thereby increasing neuronal excitability and disrupting inhibitory synaptic transmission. [1][2]

- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
